Make a deliciously creamy and rich mug of homemade hot chocolate with chocolate chips at home! This recipe uses real chocolate (chips or even chopped chocolate) to make an easy but decadent drink that will please all chocolate lovers!
2teaspoonssugar (adjust the sugar to suit your taste preferences)
1/4teaspoon vanilla extractoptional
Optional Toppings:
whipped cream, for serving
cocoa powder or chocolate shavings, for garnish
marshmallows, for serving
Instructions
Add the milk to a saucepan and heat over medium-low heat for about 2 minutes (until it is beginning to warm and no longer cold).
Stir in the chopped chocolate and sugar and whisk continuously until the chocolate and sugar have dissolved and the hot chocolate is smooth and warmed through but not boiling.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract if using. Ladle into a mug.
Optional: top with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder or chocolate shavings. You can also add marshmallows if desired.
