Ingredients in Air Fryer Shrimp

  • Large shrimp: peeled and deveined. I use large sized shrimp for this recipe. They are plump and juicy, making them great as an appetizer served with cocktail sauce. If you cannot get large shrimp, you can use smaller sized shrimp but you will need to adjust the cooking time accordingly. I would check on them during cooking as well to ensure they do not overcook and become rubbery.

  • Olive oil: The shrimp get tossed in the olive oil before being placed in the air fryer.

  • Lemon: The shrimp are tossed in lemon juice and also served with lemon wedges so that more fresh lemon juice can be squeezed on them, as desired. The lemon adds a lovely fresh zing. Fresh lemon juice is recommended over store-bought as you really can’t beat the flavor.

  • Seasoning: Old Bay seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper. You can easily play around with different seasonings to suit your taste preference. If you like a bit of heat, you can add some cayenne pepper, for example. Dried herbs or fresh herbs like dill work well with shrimp as do seasoning mixes like lemon pepper seasoning and Jamaican Jerk Seasoning.
  • Fresh parsley: for serving.

How to make Air Fryer Shrimp

  1. Season the shrimp. In a large bowl, toss the shrimp in olive oil, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, salt and pepper.

  2. Air fry. Place the shrimp in the air fryer basket and cook in a preheated air fryer at 400F for 10-11 minutes or until they are cooked through, shaking the basket halfway through the cook time. If you are using smaller shrimp, adjust the cook time accordingly.

  3. Serve. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges.

Fresh or frozen shrimp?

You can honestly use either for this recipe. Almost all of the shrimp we get here is frozen and that is what I used in this recipe. Just be sure to completely thaw your shrimp before you cook them up.

You can also make this recipe with pre-cooked shrimp. If you are doing that, cut the cook time down by half (the shrimp is already cooked, after all and you really just want to warm them up).

Storing leftovers and reheating

Once cooled completely, leftover shrimp can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.

To reheat them, you can place them back in the air fryer basket at 350F until heated through. Since shrimp become rubbery when overcooked, keep an eye on them to ensure you don’t overheat them.
