Pita Pizzas are the perfect, quick 15-minute recipe that is both easy and delicious! This super easy weeknight meal idea is perfect for those busy nights but also works great for light lunches or after school snacks! Bonus- you won’t hear a single complaint about this shortcut!

We all have those nights where we don’t know what to make for dinner…or just don’t feel up to the task. Those are the nights I am grateful for having some quick and easy meal ideas at the ready. Opening up a can of chickpeas to make Air Fryer Falafel or a can of salmon to whip up some Salmon Cakes are among our favourites for quick meals. But they come second to these Pita Pizzas!

I mean, pizza! What contest doesn’t it win?

Believe me when I tell you, you are going to want to have a pack of pitas in your freezer and jar of pizza sauce in the pantry at all times. We do. You never know when you might need to get them out in a pinch to whip up a simple but delicious dinner in minutes!

15 minutes is all that stands between you and a pizza dinner. And zero fuss. And also hardly any mess to clean up!

While we love these for quick dinner ideas, they also make great lunches or after school snacks!

Why we love Pita Pizzas

  • They’re quick to make: Just 15 minutes, start to finish. And only 5 of those minutes is hands-on time.

  • They’re easy to do: Nothing fancy here. No rolling out and shaping dough. All you have to do is assemble your pizza with your favourite toppings!

  • You can have ingredients on hand and ready at all times: As mentioned earlier, we always have pitas in our freezer and a jar of pizza sauce ready to go!

  • They’re customizable: Switch up the toppings on each pita pizza to keep the whole family happy!

  • It’s Pizza: Honestly, its pizza! What is not to love about this delicious invention?

Ingredients needed for Pita Pizzas

  • pita breads
  • pizza sauce
  • mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • toppings of choice (pepperoni, veggies, bacon, pineapple, chicken, etc)

That’s it!

What kind of pita bread should you use for pita pizzas?

For the best results, I use Greek pitas. They are thicker than other varieties and create the sturdy, chewy crust you want to see in a pizza crust.

How to make Pita Pizzas

  1. Place 2 spoons of pizza sauce on each pita, leaving a small border along the edges for a crust.

  2. Sprinkle each pita pizza with 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.

  3. Add your favourite pizza toppings to each pita or leave them as is for a cheese pizza.

  4. Bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the pita is beginning to turn a nice golden brown on the edges.

  5. Let cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve.

Topping ideas for pita pizzas:

In the world of pizza, there are so many choices that make good toppings for a pizza pie! Below is a list of some of our favourites but there are so many more options to have fun with!

  • Cheese pizza: The Kevin McAllisters of the world love a good plain cheese pizza, and I wouldn’t say no to one either! Just sauce and mozzarella are needed for this classic.
  • Pepperoni pizza: Another classic!
  • Veggie pizza: There are so many choices for veggies but some of our favourites include peppers, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes (fresh or sun-dried), asparagus, zucchini, olives, artichokes and corn.
  • Hawaiian pizza: Bring on the bacon, ham and pineapple!
  • Greek style: tomatoes, olives, red onion, feta, and a sprinkle of oregano
  • Supreme pizza: pepperoni, sliced green bell pepper, mushroom
  • Spring pizza: asparagus and prosciutto (I like to top with some arugula too after its baked)
  • Meat lovers pizza: pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon

Tips for thawing frozen pita breads

If you are using frozen pita breads, they can defrost a number of ways.

At room temperature: If you are not in a rush, you can leave them out at room temperature until they are thawed. This doesn’t take too long (1-2 hours should do it).

Microwave: If you want to speed up the process, you can sprinkle the pita breads with some water or wrap the pita breads in a damp paper towel and microwave them for about 10 seconds. The water will help them remain moist.

Oven: If you love a crispy, crunchier crust, you can also warm them in the oven for a few minutes while you are preparing the other ingredients.

Storing and reheating pita pizzas

If you made more pita pizzas than you could eat, you can easily store leftovers in the fridge. Place the leftovers in an airtight container or wrap them in plastic food wrap.

To reheat leftover pizza, place the pita pizzas on a parchment lined baking sheet and pop back in the oven at 350F until warmed through. You can also reheat them in an air fryer.

I hope you enjoy this quick and delicious meal idea!
