Turmeric Latte (or Golden Milk)

Turmeric Latte (or Golden Milk) is made with a mix of turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger. This anti-inflammatory drink is healthy and yummy!

A few years ago I suddenly started to experience negative reactions to foods. I’m not sure what brought it on (although I have theories). Suddenly many of the foods I enjoyed would give me adverse reactions. These included stomach pain, migraines and inflammation in my body. After struggling to find out what foods were triggering these reactions, I began to work on identifying trigger foods through elimination diets and then striking them from my diet.

The stricken food list is quite substantial and was disheartening at first. Avoiding trigger foods has made it difficult to eat out at restaurants and at other peoples homes. I was finding that most of my favourite foods were no longer options for me. This caused me to struggle to find motivation to cook and eat.

With the encouragement of my husband, I got myself back into the kitchen and began to cook up new meals or alter the recipes I once I enjoyed with substitutions that worked for my diet. I have always loved to cook and have enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen since I was old enough to use a stove. Although I can’t use every ingredient I once did, I began to realize just how many options were still open to me! The list of foods I can no longer eat (just a handful) vs. the foods I can enjoy (so many options!) makes eating a healthy diet with endless options for meals a very real possibility.

I am quite good at avoiding foods I should steer clear of or limit. On occasion, though, I eat something that I react to. This usually leaves me scratching my head wondering what on earth it was!

I wanted to share with you today one ingredient that pops up regularly in my meals. Turmeric. I use it whenever I possibly can. It has increased in popularity in recent years and is touted for its anti-inflammatory properties. I use this spice often and one of my absolute favourites is to make Turmeric Lattes (sometimes called Golden Milk)! My husband and I are absolutely nuts over these! Turmeric, cinnamon, ginger are among the ingredients and make these lattes oh so yummy! I always feel good knowing I am drinking something that tastes great and is healthy and nutritious!

I am sharing our go-to recipe for a super easy and quick turmeric latte you can make at home. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

If you like Turmeric Latte as I am, I highly recommend keeping a large jar of the spice mix (only the dry ingredients) in a large jar for easy use. It saves me from having to measure things out every time.

This is lovely – really comforting on a cold, dark evening! Great alternative to hot chocolate. Had to adapt slightly to the available ingredients in my kitchen (cows’ milk and runny honey instead of maple syrup) – worked well. Thank you!
