This Simple Oreo Ice Cream recipe combines rich, creamy vanilla ice cream with loads of chopped Oreo cookies. This decadent dessert is easy to make, uses simple ingredients, and doesn’t require cooking a custard first. Quick, easy, and so delicious!
Oreo ice cream has always been one of my favorite ice cream flavors. Creamy ice cream that is loaded with crunchy bits of Oreo cookies – what is not to love about this frozen treat?
This homemade Oreo ice cream is even better than store-bought versions. Made with simple ingredients and no added preservatives, this decadent and creamy ice cream is simply perfect. Made with heavy cream and whole milk, the ice cream comes out super creamy – the way ice cream should be!

The cookies and cream flavor comes from a cup and a half of chopped Oreo cookies. I like to load my Oreo ice cream with lots of Oreo pieces so it is mixed in to the ice cream with more cookies layered in before freezing. This means each spoonful of ice cream is perfect.

Why we love this recipe
- This simple Oreo ice cream is loaded with cookies in a creamy, vanilla base. It’s delicious!
- Oreo lovers will love this ice cream – it is loaded with more Oreos than your average ice cream so you really get to enjoy those crunchy, delicious little cookie bits.
- The recipe is easy to make – you just need Oreos and a handful of other simple ingredients to make.
- I typically add less sugar than many ice cream recipes call for (and you don’t miss it – the end result is still sweet and satisfying).
- You can easily change things up to suit your own tastes. You could swirl in chocolate sauce or use my Simple Chocolate Ice Cream as the base, instead of vanilla ice cream, to make it super chocolatey!

Ingredients in Simple Oreo Ice Cream
- Whole milk: While you could technically use milk with a lower fat percentage (like 2%), whole milk will give you the best results – a creamy ice cream base.
- Sugar: Granulated sugar to sweeten the ice cream.
- Heavy cream: The cream, along with the whole milk, makes the vanilla ice cream base ultra creamy (and not icy).
- Vanilla extract: Flavors the vanilla ice cream base.
- Salt: A pinch of salt enhances the flavor.
- Oreos: chopped Oreos are mixed in to the ice cream and also layered into it before freezing to make this super delicious!

How to make Simple Oreo Ice Cream
- Dissolve sugar. To a mixing bowl, add the whole milk and sugar. Whisk together for a couple of minutes to help the sugar dissolve.
- Mix in vanilla ice cream ingredients. Add the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt to the mixture and stir to combine.
- Churn. When you are ready to churn the ice cream, give the ingredients a quick whisk and then add them to the ice cream maker. Follow the manufacturer instructions to churn the ice cream.
- Add chopped Oreos. In the last 2 minutes of churning, add 1 cup of chopped Oreos to the ice cream machine. Alternatively, you can stir in the Oreos by hand after the ice cream has churned.
- Serve as soft-serve or freeze for a scoopable ice cream. Serve immediately (the ice cream will have a soft-serve consistency at this stage), sprinkling the extra chopped Oreos over the ice cream. For a hard, scoopable ice cream: transfer half of the ice cream into your freezer safe container and sprinkle with half of the remaining Oreos. Then layer with the remaining half of the ice cream and top once more with the rest of the Oreos. Freeze until ready to scoop and serve.

Variations
We love this Oreo ice cream as is but there are always fun ways to make new and exciting variations! Some of these include:
- Adding swirls of chocolate fudge to the ice cream.
- Using a Simple Chocolate Ice Cream as the base, instead of vanilla.
- Use other fun Oreo flavors such as cake batter, peanut butter, or mint, for example.
