What are Oreo balls made of?
Oreo truffles require only 3 ingredients to make and are incredibly simple! To make Oreo truffles, you will need Oreos, cream cheese and chocolate or candy melts. Either regular or white chocolate can be used for the coating (or candy melts). Another optional ingredient is to use sprinkles to decorate the Oreo truffles in place of the crushed Oreo crumbs. You can switch up the sprinkles to make them suit different holidays throughout the year!
How to form Oreo truffles – a step by step guide
- Place Oreos in a food processor and pulse until they are crumbled. If you are using crushed Oreos to decorate instead of sprinkles, reserve a little now (about 3 tablespoons) and set aside.
- Add the cream cheese and keep pulsing until the cream cheese is well incorporated.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop, scoop out a portion of the mixture and roll it between your palms to form a smooth ball. Place the ball on the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining mixture and then place the baking sheet in the fridge to set.
- Meanwhile, melt the candy melts or chocolate using your preferred method. [My method: place the candy melts in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and microwave for an additional 20 seconds. If needed, stir again and microwave for 20 more seconds.] Remove the truffles from the fridge and dip the truffles in the melted chocolate one at a time. Use a fork to scoop them out and gently shake of the excess.
- Set the truffles back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet and immediately add a pinch of the reserved Oreo cookie crumbs or sprinkles on top.
- Once all the truffles are dipped, allow them to set. Then transfer to an airtight container and store in the fridge until serving.
That’s it! Pretty easy right?!
Do you have to refrigerate Oreo truffles?
Yes, since one of the main ingredients in Oreo truffles is cream cheese, they should be stored in the refrigerator in an air-tight container. This will not only preserve them and keep them safe to consume but it will also help them hold their shape as they soften when left out at room temperature for too long.
How long to Oreo truffles last?
When stored in the fridge in an air-tight container, Oreo truffles will last a few weeks.
Can you freeze Oreo truffles?
Yes, if you are looking to make these in advance, Oreo balls can be frozen for a couple of months. Be sure to store them in an air-tight, freezer-safe container to ensure they do not get freezer burn.
I hope you enjoy these delicious little Oreo balls as much as I do!
