Oreo cookies and classic brownies come together to create the ultimate, decadent treat- Oreo Brownies! This recipe is sure to be a hit with the whole family.
Classic brownies are perfect but when you add a layer of Oreo cookies to those brownies, you know you are in for a real treat! These Oreo Brownies are rich, fudgy, and always a crowd pleaser.
The best part? Oreo Brownies are just as easy to make as classic homemade brownies. I use my favorite fudgy brownie recipe to make this treat, adding half of the batter to the baking pan, layering it with Oreo cookies, and then spreading the rest of the batter over top. A final sprinkle of crushed Oreos on top and into the oven they go.

The end result is exactly as you’d expect – fudgy, chocolatey brownies loaded with Oreo flavor. These are always a hit when I serve them up to family and friends and I am sure that they will become an instant favorite in your home too.
P.S. If you are feeling extra decadent, a scoop of Oreo Ice Cream on top of a warm brownie piece is extra delicious!

Ingredients in Oreo Brownies
- Flour: All purpose.
- Baking powder: Just a little baking powder is added to the batter.
- Salt: A little salt added to the batter enhances the flavor.
- Butter: I use unsalted butter but salted butter can be used as well. Just be sure to use a salted butter that isn’t overly salty in flavor and omit the added salt if needed.
- Cocoa powder: Use a good quality cocoa powder for the best chocolate flavor.
- Instant espresso powder: This ingredient helps achieve a richer, deeper chocolate flavor but it can be omitted if you do not have it on hand or want to reduce the caffeine in the recipe.
- Sugar: White granulated sugar.
- Eggs and Vanilla Extract
- Chocolate chips: Mixed into the batter.
- Oreos: To layer in the brownies as well as chop or crush to add on top of the brownies before baking.

How to make Oreo Brownies
- Prep. Preheat oven to 350F and line a 9×9 baking dish with parchment paper.
- Mix the dry batter ingredients. In a large bowl, add the flour, salt, and baking powder. Set aside.
- Melt butter and stir with cocoa powder, espresso powder, and sugar. In a medium saucepan, add the butter, espresso powder, and cocoa powder. Melt the butter and simultaneously whisk together with the other ingredients over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add the sugar and stir in. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Mix all of the batter ingredients together. In a stand mixer (or mixing bowl with a hand mixer), add the saucepan ingredients. With the mixer running at medium speed, add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time. Slowly add the dry ingredients and stop the mixer as soon as they are incorporated (careful not to over-mix). Fold in the chocolate chips using a spatula.
- Prepare the brownie layers. Pour half of the batter into the lined baking dish. Top it with Oreos in a single layer (about 16 Oreos). Add the remaining batter on top. Roughly chop the remaining oreos and sprinkle on top of the brownie batter.
- Bake. Bake for 25-27 minutes or until the edges are firm and the center is set. Let the brownies cool before slicing.

Storing leftover brownies
Allow brownies to cool completely and then place sliced brownies into an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for about 3-5 days or in the fridge.
Freezing brownies
If you plan on freezing the brownies, I recommend individually wrapping the cooled brownies in plastic wrap and then placing them in a freezer bag. They can be frozen for up to 3 months.
