Tsoureki French Toast

Classic French toast gets an upgrade with the flavour of tsoureki bread in this Tsoureki French Toast! Easily the best way to put all that tsoureki to good use!

My love for tsoureki bread runs deep. Every Easter when we make it, the recipe is doubled or tripled and loaves of extra bread are stored in the freezer so we can eat this deliciousness in the months ahead. It is SO good!

For those of you who haven’t tried tsoureki- it is similar to brioche or challah bread. Its soft and sweet and oh so good! In other words, its something you need to try, asap!

Tsoureki is delicious as it is but transforming it into French toast is even better! I mean, who doesn’t love French toast? And when the bread base is a sweetened, delicious slice of tsoureki, it is seriously so much better!

How to make Tsoureki French Toast

If you know how to make french toast with regular bread, you know how to make it with tsoureki bread. There is nothing I do differently here. The same ingredients- eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla and cinnamon are combined only this time tsoureki bread is dunked in.

In a bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon together. Place the tsoureki slices in the mixture and allow them to soak it in for minute or so (be careful not to leave them submerged for too long or the bread will begin to fall apart).

Meanwhile, heat a pat of butter in pan over medium heat. Add the tsoureki slices and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they begin to brown nicely. You will likely have to cook the slices in batches so repeat the process until all the French toast is cooked.

Serve with honey or maple syrup and enjoy!
