Hawaiian Turkey Burgers

These healthy Hawaiian Turkey Burgers are loaded with pineapple flavour and sure to please the whole family! They can be grilled or baked in the oven for an easy year-round meal!

We love making turkey burgers around here! While a traditional turkey burger is delicious as it is, we decided to take it up a notch with these amazing Hawaiian Turkey Burgers!

We have been obsessed with Grilled Huli Huli Chicken (which you need to try ASAP if you haven’t already) this summer and can’t get enough of the flavours! That was the inspiration behind these burgers and boy did it deliver!

As summer is nearing an end, and with it, grilling season too we are getting our fill of burgers and all sorts of grilled meats and veggies! But I know that doesn’t mean we won’t get to enjoy these flavours all year round as I can bake these burgers up in the oven or cook them up on a grill pan in the dead of winter. I can just close my eyes and pretend I’m in Hawaii and far away for from wintery weather!

How to make Hawaiian Turkey Burgers

These burgers are super easy to make and essentially come down to three different steps:

  • make and cook the burgers
  • make the glaze and brush it on them
  • assemble the burgers

To make the burgers, you will need:

For the burgers

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

For the Pineapple Glaze

  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

To assemble burgers

  • 6 burger buns
  • pineapple rings
  • lettuce
  • red onion, sliced into rings

Mix all burger ingredients in a large bowl. Form into hamburger patties and cook on grill until cooked through. Alternatively, you can bake these in the oven at 400F for about 30 minutes or until cooked through. (The cook time may vary depending on the size of your burgers so keep your eye on them).

In a small saucepan, warm the pineapple juice, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, and ginger over medium heat, whisking together. In a small cup, stir together the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Add to the saucepan and whisk until thickened. Brush over the cooked burgers.

Assemble burgers and enjoy! Serve remaining glaze as a condiment. Trust me, you are going to want more sauce! It is soo good!

That’s it! I hope you give these a try and enjoy them as much as we do!
