Traditional Greek Salad

This traditional Greek Salad is a healthy, fresh side dish perfect for most dishes! This authentic recipe is easy to make and packed with veggies and feta!

Hands down, this is my favourite summer salad. The best salad. It’s simple, fresh, and speaks to my roots! It’s also loaded with all of my favourite things (hey, feta, talking to you!) and a healthy amount of Greek olive oil.

This salad makes an awesome, healthy side dish to accompany your summer grilling. I also like to make a huge salad and dig into it with a hunk of crusty bread to make a whole meal out of it. I mean, what more do you need on a hot summer day?

What makes this salad so awesome?

  • fresh, juicy tomatoes (and cucumbers and onions)
  • good quality feta
  • good quality olive oil

I called this salad a traditional Greek salad because this is exactly the type of salad you get in Greece, often served with a huge piece of feta on top. No lettuce here. Just tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and feta drizzled with a generous helping of olive oil, some vinegar, oregano, salt and pepper. Simple, good quality ingredients is all you need and that pretty much sums up all that is important to Greek cuisine.

How to make Traditional Greek Salad

To make this salad, you will need:

  • 4 tomatoes, sliced into wedges
  • 1 cup cucumber, chopped into bite sized pieces
  • 1/4 onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup whole Kalamata olives (or your favourite variety)
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup feta, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • salt and pepper to taste

To start, I prepare the veggies by chopping the tomatoes and cucumbers into bite sized pieces and slicing the onion. Then I place them in a bowl and add all the remaining ingredients. Everything gets tossed together to ensure the salad is well mixed. That’s it! It’s ready to serve!

I hope you enjoy this salad as much as I do!

Kali orexi (bon appetit)!
